MX1 nabs global Premier League rights
Michelle Clancy | 01 September 2016 MX1 is to distribute Premier League match broadcasts to TV service providers and audiences worldwide as part of a multi-year deal.
MX1, the global media services company formed from the merger of SES Platform Services and RR Media, signed up Premier League Productions (PLP) after agreeing a deal with IMG, PLP’s production partner. MX1 has a long-standing and growing relationship with IMG, providing global content distribution services for other IMG sport properties.
Premier League activity kicked off earlier this month, while earlier this summer the company distributed Wimbledon content throughout Asia for IMG. MX1 has also been involved in the Rio Olympics in the distribution of content for the company.
“We are providing Premier League Productions with content distribution services via our global network and regional media centres to give millions of sports fans across the globe the ultimate viewing experience,” said Elad Manishviz, CMO & CBO, Sport and Events, . “Specifically, MX1 has a direct connection to IMG’s main sports production facility in London where we aggregate and deliver Premier League games throughout the season in HD to TV service platforms, channels and networks across the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.”
He added: “The sports services sector is an important growth area for us. We have formed a dedicated sports business unit to support our growing customer roster of sports rights holders, sports channels and broadcasters and have invested in the latest technology and services infrastructure, which will allow us to meet their ongoing needs. Along with IMG, MX1’s customers include some of the biggest names in sport including the NFL, NBA and FOX Sports.”
