Australian video-on-demand (VOD) service Presto is now being offered by Virgin Mobile, along with a bonus 2GB data incentive for subscribers to stream content.
Virgin Mobile customer research shows that Australians hesitate to use their mobile devices to stream content because of concerns over data costs. To allay these concerns the current offer provides select existing billed customers with an extra 2GB of data for each consecutive month they subscribe to and stream Presto content, for up to six months.
The Walking Dead, Mad Men, True Blood and local dramas Wentworth and All Saints have recently been joined by seasons one to seven of comedy series The Big Bang Theory in Presto’s VOD library.
“We’re here to make mobile better and, with our customers hungry for quality content on-the-go, a partnership with premium content provider, Presto, was a natural fit. We have listened to what our customers want and together with Presto, Virgin Mobile is showcasing just how we really facilitate how our customers want to use their handsets – we’re offering a great experience all round,” said Philippa Durant, director of brand and communication, Virgin Mobile.
Shaun James, CEO, Presto TV, added: “Earlier this year we shared insights on the rise of ‘commutertainment’ whereby Presto usage on mobile devices peaks for Aussies in core commuter times. Considering Virgin Mobile has also recently identified that many Australians are conscious of how much data they are using when streaming through their mobile, this partnership, and the bonus offering, is an unquestionably perfect pairing as we’re simultaneously addressing a consumer concern and meeting a consumer demand.”
Virgin has enlisted US actor Kevin Dillon, star of Entourage – also available to stream on Presto – to promote the partnership.
The news comes days after Presto announced it has launched a native Android TV app, and is now streaming to supported devices including the new 2015 Sony Smart TVs and Google Nexus Players.
