Content distributor 108 Media has entered a joint venture with integrated mobile application operator Viva Red to launch a video-on-demand app in China later this year.
Hunan-based 108 China will provide and distribute locally-produced Chinese content for a global audience, providing both its parent companies with expansion opportunities in China’s thriving content market.
The first app from 108 China is the free-to-download SeeMe, which will provide over 800 hours of online TV and film content. Currently in beta testing, users of the app will be able to opt for subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) for unlimited streaming, to own or rent preferred content via transactional video-on-demand (TVOD), or access selected advertising-funded content free of charge.
SeeMe provides multi-genre content, including children’s shows, live action, animation, lifestyle series and documentaries covering travel, culinary, entertainment, concerts, sports, nature, people and culture, as well as independent films from around the world.
“There has been a growing demand from China for high quality, exceptional content delivered across mobile, VOD and broadcast. 108 Media in partnership with Viva Red are excited to launch 108 China and are ready to meet the needs of these enthusiastic content consumers with its exclusive slate of compelling viewing,” said Abhi Rastogi, founder and CEO, 108 Media.
Miss Shali, CEO, Viva Red, added: “108 has an outstanding reputation for acquiring successful and world-class content and its catalogue is tailored to reflect the demands of the Chinese market. This combined, with Viva Red’s renowned expertise provides the perfect partnership and we are excited to launch this joint venture.”
The SeeMe app was developed and funded by Viva Red with 108 Media positioned as its exclusive content provider. It is scheduled to launch in China in the second quarter of 2016.
