Tencent acquires BBC documentaries

BBC Worldwide has licensed more than 1,000 hours of documentaries to China’s Tencent for its online video platform v.qq.com and Tencent Video app.
bbcworldThe deal includes BBC programmes including Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild; How We Got to Now, The Mekong River with Sue Perkins and chef Rick Stein’s Taste of Shanghai.
“We have had a long and fruitful partnership with Tencent and are excited to expand our relationship by providing the BBC’s premium documentary content to fans across China,” said Kelvin Yau, general manager of BBC Worldwide (Greater China).
Sun Zhong Huai, corporate vice president, Tencent, added: “The BBC’s documentary content is best-in-class and viewers in China are eager for rich, high quality programmes. The addition of the BBC’s content to our catalogue will further enhance our world-class premium content for users.”
