Champions League final breaks Spanish-language record for ESPN in US

The dramatic Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid was the most-watched event ever on ESPN Deportes, breaking Hispanics’ record for the US network.
espn champions leagueAccording to Nielsen figures, the match reached an average of 1.3 million Hispanic viewers, delivering a 5.0 Hispanic household rating and surpassing the UEFA Euro 2012 final (Spain v Italy), which held the former record with 1.1 million Hispanic viewers.
On WatchESPN, ESPN Deportes also scored its highest event ever to date with the game, delivering 7.6 million total minutes viewed with 138,000 live unique viewers.
Thanks to the Madrid derby dominating Europe’s football scene ESPN Deportes was the highest-rated, most-watched cable network – English or Spanish – among Hispanics on match day in the US.
ESPN’s game-around-the-game coverage also showed ratings growth, with Fuera de Juego’s post-game show scoring its most-watched telecast this year, and the SportsCenter pre-match weekend edition becoming the second highest-rated SportsCenter edition in 2016
