The statistics of cord-cutting and online viewing send mixed messages about whether audiences are ready to give up their cable subscription and stream all of their video content online.

According to a survey from Furious Corp, most viewers are finding more time in the day to consume video content, both on TV and online—and are not choosing one over the other.

That said, the most popular platform for watching movies and television shows overall is Netflix, with 48.18% of users reporting it as the most used for watching content. Netflix was also the most popular platform for mobile viewers, with 25.63% watching television and video content away from the TV. And, respondents who have considered cancelling their cable subscription were most likely to subscribe to Netflix, with 49% of respondents reporting it as the most-considered streaming platform when cutting the cable cord.

Amazon Prime was the least popular platform for watching movies and television shows, with only 4.28% of users stating it as their most used platform.

Only about a third (32%) reported that they did not currently have a cable subscription. When compared to other generations, Baby Boomers were least likely to subscribe, with 37% identifying as not having one. Just 12% of Generation X reported contemplating the cancelling of their cable subscription in the past six months, with the need for live sporting events most often preventing them from doing so.

Meanwhile, 32% of respondents said they were happy with their subscriptions and had not planned on cancelling in the past six months. Women and Millennials were most happy with their cable subscription, with 34% and 33% respectively having no plans to cancel.

And of course, many consumers watch cable and stream too. Out of this group, Furious reported that millennials owned the most smart TVs, with 21% reporting at least one device in their household.
