Optus bags International Champions Cup rights

Australian telco Optus has secured broadcasting and streaming rights to the European and US legs of pre-season football tournament the International Champions Cup.
optusyesThe matches, which will be played from 22 July until mid-August, will act as a preamble to the launch of Optus’ coverage of the English Premier League in August. It will be available solely to those subscribing to the Premier League on Optus Sport.
The International Champions Cup will feature – among other clubs – Premier League winners Leicester City, along with Manchester United and Liverpool, La Liga's Barcelona and Real Madrid, Italy's Inter Milan and AC Milan, French League 1 winners Paris Saint-German, and Germany’s Bayern Munich.
Optus will be the exclusive broadcaster in Australia of 15 matches from the US and Europe, and will also show the China leg, in addition to the Nine Network. Nine is the exclusive rights holder for the International Champions Cup games to be played in Australia.
Optus has also launched a new ad campaign to promote its Premier League coverage, featuring former Wimbledon footballer turned actor Vinnie Jones.
