ESPN unveils multi-platform, mobile plan for LATAM Rio 2016 coverage

Less than a month before the Olympics begin in Rio, ESPN has presented a multi-network, online and mobile broadcasting plan for Latin America.
espn rio 2016The network will deploy over 1,400 hours of live HD programming through ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN+, and the streaming platform ESPN Play, as well as other digital platforms. ESPN2 has been selected as the main channel to follow the performance of Latin America’s athletes.
From 5-21 August, a 450-strong team from ESPN will be based in Rio de Janeiro, housed in four studios in Copacabana, Origami, IBC and the Olympic Park.
The media group is already producing two shows prior to the event: #YORIO, which follows the stories of Latin American athletes; and Countdown to Rio, featuring special reports about the run-up to the Games.
Throughout the event, ESPN will broadcast 16 hours of Olympics-related programming in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru. In addition, once each day is over, a recap show will air.
Through ESPN.com, the TV group will offer live data, video analysis, pictures, profiles of each athlete and video-on-demand (VOD) content with highlights. ESPN Play will also live stream to mobile devices the same programming as the pay-TV channels.
