DIRECTV to broadcast NBC’s 4K Olympics coverage

Leading US commms provider AT&T has announced that NBC’s 4K coverage of Olympic events will be available for its DIRECTV customers.
directv olympics 4kRunning from 5-21 August, NBC's 4K Ultra HD coverage of the Games will include footage from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies (on a two-and-a-half hour delay), along with swimming, track and field, basketball and judo, all on a one-day delay, as well as Rio scenics.
In addition to the 4K broadcast, DIRECTV customers can tune into an eight-screens-in-one Mix channel, featuring Olympic events taking place across eight of NBC’s networks. While viewing the Mix channel, DIRECTV and U-verse customers will also have access to more features like on-screen interactive apps for simultaneous viewing of NBCUniversal's events by date and sport, real-time medal counts, plus video clips and extras.
DIRECTV is the first pay-TV provider in the US to offer a dedicated 4K Ultra HD channel.
The announcement comes on the heels of other DIRECTV 4K sports broadcasts including Amen Corner at The Masters, The AT&T Byron Nelson, and most recently The US Open and UFC 200. The satcaster will also be broadcasting the 4th hole from this weekend’s PGA Championship live in 4K.
"Our customers can easily keep track of their favourite events by watching the Mix channel," said Dan York, chief content officer for AT&T. “They'll get real-time results, medal counts and NBC video highlights at the touch of a remote button and see one of the world's most spectacular cities through our delivery of 4K Ultra HD. It will give DIRECTV customers a breath-taking visual."
