Mediaset, TVE lead Spain's Web TV boom

Web TV consumption is on the increase in Spain, led by Mediaset channels and the public channel TVE, which had 17 and 16 million unique users respectively during October, according to OJD.
Online TV consumption grew 34% during 2012, representing 11% of all TV use. According to the latest report from UTECA, Spain's commercial TV association, online consumption shot up between 2011 and 2012, but traditional TV is still leading, representing 89% of consumption.
Mediaset's websites served over 88 million videos during last month for four million unique viewers, according to Comscore, beating the group's major competitor, Atresmedia, by over a million viewers and nearly 30 million videos. Mediaset users used the group's sites 337 minutes on average in October, with most of the traffic going to Mitele.es and Telecinco.es.
According to Comscore figures, Atresplayer – Atresmedia's new online video player – had five million plays, while Mitele.es, more established in the market, had 17 million. Telecinco.es had 3.9 million unique viewers and Cuatro.com nearly one million, while Antena 3 had 2.9 million and laSexta 339,000.
TVE's website presented similar figures to Mediaset, although the number of plays (42 million) places the public TV in third place. TVE had almost 16 million unique users during October, with over 47 million visits to the site, according OJD figures, which actually represents a 10.9% growth in traffic compared to September.
Botón Rojo, TVE's new hybrid TV platform, had over 600,000 users and the group mobile apps – led by the kid's Clan TV – had nearly two million unique users.
