European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has tapped media, IP and broadcast transport solutions provider Net Insight as it modernises and upgrades its global fibre network.
The EBU comprises an alliance of public service media organisations, with Members in 56 countries in Europe and beyond. Its stated mission is to defend the interests of public service media and to promote their contribution to modern society.
The EBU operates EUROVISION, claimed to be the media industry's premier distributor and producer of live sport and news, as well as entertainment, culture and music content. Furthermore, the EUROVISION, and sister offering EURORADIO, satellite and fibre network is said to be the largest and most reliable in the world directly plugged in to public service media everywhere.
The EUROVISION fibre network is based on Net Insight's Nimbra platform, and the EBU will upgrade its global network with Nimbra 600 series MSRs in an order values just below €1 million.
“EBU will modernise the network to serve broadcasters with new and additional video and data services,” said Fredrik Tumegård, CEO of Net Insight. “We support the EBU fully in its objective to adapt its network infrastructure to stay cost-efficient and flexible with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS).”
