Sky Deutschland will continue to provide its customers with subscription channels and movies from Walt Disney after the German pay-TV broadcaster extended its collaboration with the US media company by several years.
The agreement of which full financial details have not been disclosed enables Sky to continue distributing Disney Junior, Disney XD and Disney Cinemagic as well as exclusively Disney Cinemagic HD. Disney Channel, however, is no longer available at Sky as the channel will re-launch as a free-to-air service in Germany on 17 January 2014.
Sky also secured the exclusive TV debut rights for all movies distributed by Disney including all future titles from Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios and Disney Pixar. In addition to their airing on the Sky's movie channels the films will also be available on-demand at Sky Go and Sky Anytime.
The Disney productions which will be first shown by Sky include Star Wars: Episode VII, Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, The Lone Ranger, Muppets Most Wanted, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Maleficent.
In addition, Snap by Sky, the recently launched new online video library, will show Disney series such as Marvel's The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Handy Manny as well as movies such as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 3 and Hannah Montana: The Movie.
