After somewhat of a lull, a new retrans row has emerged in the US with Turner Networks removing a number of its key channels from the DISH programming line-up.

turnerThe satellite provider confirmed that Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, CNN en Español, HLN, truTV and Turner Classic Movies have been pulled form its schedules after the two parties were unable to negotiate the terms of a renewed distribution agreement.

DISH squarely blamed the content firm for the blank screens, accusing Turner of 'refusing' to extend the overall existing agreement. It added that Turner was making 'unreasonable financial demands' despite DISH 'working around the clock' to reach a fair and reasonable agreement with Turner.

Extending an olive branch, DISH said that it had enjoyed a productive relationship with Turner for many years and was confident it could reach an agreement to restore these channels soon. "In the past year, DISH has successfully renewed agreements with many large content providers," commented DISH senior vice president of programming Warren Schlichting. "As a result, we are confident that we have offered a deal to Turner that reflects an appropriate value for our customers. DISH has had a productive relationship with Turner Networks for many years. We regret the service disruption to our customers, and remain committed to reaching an agreement that promptly returns this content to DISH's programming line-up."

Not surprisingly Turner took a different tack, accusing DISH of being 'disruptive' despite its best efforts to broker a fair deal. In a statement it said: "We were unable to reach an agreement with Dish Network, and [it has] unilaterally decided to pull CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, truTV, TCM, HLN, CNN en Español and Boomerang off the air upon the expiration of our current deal. Turner has worked diligently for months to come to a fair agreement including multiple extensions and compromises, and it's unfortunate that DISH is once again operating in a disruptive manner that takes away networks and programming from their customers. We are hopeful our counterparts will return to the negotiating table, and we'll get a deal completed." inShare0
