The production arm of the UK’s leading independent commercial TV company, ITV Studios, is carrying on its strategy of investing in leading creators by taking a minority stake in Route 24.

ITV studios 17 May 2016The up and coming UK indie producer was founded by leading independent film producer Marc Samuelson and co-directors Robert Cheek and Josie Law, with a focus on high-end drama, a niche into which ITV Studios has ploughed a lot of money over the last few years.

Samuelson has worked in film production for over 20 years. His numerous credits include the Oscar-nominated features Tom & Viv and Chico & Rita, BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated Wilde starring Stephen Fry and Jude Law, and the UK box office hits Stormbreaker and TT3D: Closer to the Edge. He was also an executive producer of the critically acclaimed BBC series The Shadow Line.

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) will now distribute Route 24 content on an exclusive basis. The indie already has several series in development with broadcasters and has rights to a number of projects with the John Wyndham Estate, providing access to the celebrated author’s IP. Writer and producer Matt Delargy will now work with the team as a consultant development producer.

Commenting on the deal, Ruth Clarke, EVP, global content strategy and investment, ITVS GE, said: “Marc has an exciting and really clear vision for Route 24 that takes advantage of his decades in the film industry and the enviable experience and contacts that brings. The global demand for high-end drama continues and we’re thrilled Marc and his team have chosen to partner with ITVS GE to make the most of the opportunities around the world.”

Samuelson added: “ITVS GE is a really exciting company to work with – its global ambition, creative instincts and collaborative ethos make it our ideal partner as we work to establish a terrific new drama indie.”
