FOX to restrict access to NFL playoffs, but the Super Bowl’s free
    Michelle Clancy | 04-01-2014

As the NFL hits the post-season, FOX Sports has announced that it will once again stream Super Bowl XLVIII, airing on 2 February, free to US users.

This will be the third year in a row it has done so. But there’s a tradeoff: sources told Variety that FOX’s other NFC post-season games will be put behind a paywall, with only subscribers of Comcast, AT&T U-verse and Cablevision Systems (and a few regional pay-TV providers) able to gain access.

The Super Bowl is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Super Bowl Sunday, live from the outdoor MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The event, which is the first-ever cold-weather NFL championship, will be available at foxsportsgo.com and via the FoxSportsGo mobile app for iOS devices. The streamed action will also include the halftime show featuring Bruno Mars.

FOX’s restricted NFC playoff schedule kicks off with the San Francisco 49ers vs. the Green Bay Packers wild card game this Sunday in Green Bay’s outdoor Lambeau Field during what is widely forecast to be one of the most frigid cold snaps in recent memory. That will be followed by the two divisional games next weekend, and the NFC Championship Game on 19 January.

CBS’ AFC playoffs coverage in contrast will be available for free to all via CBSSports.com. That includes the wild card game this Sunday between the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals, two divisional games next weekend and finally the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, 19 Jan.

NBC will also have free live streaming of its two wild card games this Saturday: the Kansas City Chiefs at the Indianapolis Colts, followed by the New Orleans Saints at the Philadelphia Eagles.
