OSN seals major multi-platform content deal with Gulf Film

Middle East pay-TV operator OSN has gained exclusive regional access to almost 1,000 new films in Arabic and English, following a six-year deal with distributor Gulf Film.

The all-transaction window buyout deal, claimed to be the MENA region’s first, will see Gulf Film’s premium independent and major studio productions aired by OSN until 2021 across all platforms, including its over-the-top (OTT) platform for subscribers, OSN Play, and GO, the non-subscriber-based online TV service.

“The exclusive multi-year output deal with Gulf Film is industry-defining for the MENA region. It marks the first time that an exclusive content sharing agreement has been signed with the region’s leading distributor of films,” said David Butorac, CEO, OSN.

OSN will also preview 56 trailers of the movies playing at Gulf Film-owned Novo Cinemas daily on its channels. While Gulf Film will cross-promote content from the pay-TV operator at all Novo Cinema screens across the Middle East.

Selim El Azar, CEO, Gulf Film, added: “As the pioneering film distribution house in the region, Gulf Film brings new theatrical releases every week. Through our partnership with OSN, we can further strengthen the visibility of our new releases via movie trailers and other behind-the-scenes looks. OSN subscribers will also have the opportunity to watch their favourite movies first on television on their network, and in truly spectacular HD quality.”

Effective immediately, the partnership will bring OSN viewers the following in 2016: Dirty Grandpa starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron; Colossal starring Anne Hathaway; The Headhunter’s Calling starring Gerard Butler; Russell Crowe’s Fathers and Daughters; Henry Cavill’s Sand Castle; Miss Sloane starring Jessica Chastain; Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant; and Criminal Activities starring John Travolta.

OSN already has multi-year content deals in place with US production giants HBO, Warner Bros, NBC Universal and Paramount, among others.
