Unifique protects cable, FTTH premium content delivery with Irdeto Cloaked CA

Brazilian start-up pay-TV operator Unifique has selected content protection and security firm Irdeto to scale and digitise services across its cable and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
unifique 18 May 2016Growing through the integration of a number of local ISPs, Unifique required a security solution that was both flexible and easy to deploy as it began to digitise analogue cable operations and deploy TV services through IPTV on its FTTH network.
“We are committed to providing our customers with premium service and high quality content, and to make this possible we needed a robust solution that provided scalability for our IPTV network,” revealed Unifique COO Erolf Schotten. “We were running a number of independent networks that needed to be harmonised. Irdeto’s Cloaked CA solution allowed us the security robustness we needed and the flexibility to deploy one STB model for all networks, ensuring that we provide our customers with an optimal experience as we continue to grow and innovate.”
Irdeto Cloaked CA is a cardless CA solution designed to enable both IPTV and DVB-C, and can be run off a single set-top box (STB) for all networks. Irdeto says that its solution significantly reduces total cost of ownership by eliminating logistical costs that are traditionally associated with physical smart cards and has allowed Unifique to innovate quicker.
“The rapid expansion of the broadband and fibre-to-the-home infrastructure in Brazil requires pay-TV operators like Unifique to implement security solutions that do not slow them down and enable them to innovate,” claimed Irdeto’s regional sales director for Latin America Irdeto Alexandra Larsson. “Cloaked CA provides Unifique with a solution that reduces total cost of ownership by eliminating the need to swap in new chipsets for every network and security update or new subscription package offering. This flexibility is critical as operators strive to provide their customers with the premium content and services they desire.”
