NBC Olympics taps Microsoft for Games streaming Olympics-rio2016

NBC Olympics has selected Microsoft Azure to carry the Summer Olympic Games, set to kick off on 5 August.

olympics rio2016The US broadcast giant will deliver the event live and on-demand to any device, including connected TVs, gaming consoles, tablets, smartphones, PCs and more. Microsoft will provide streaming service for a record 4,500 hours of online content.

This is the second Games that NBC Olympics has chosen Azure for steaming coverage. To deliver authenticated streaming coverage live and on-demand, Microsoft is working with Adobe Primetime Systems and its Primetime TV publishing and monetisation platform, which is integrated with Azure so programmers can seamlessly deliver online video and ads to millions of viewers at scale.

NBC Sports released a Windows 10 UWP app on 29 July for PC and mobile that will allow users to live stream the Summer Games as well as other live sporting events. Users will be able to personalise their experience in the app by setting reminders, receiving notifications for important events, pinning items from lists onto their homepages and watching full event/game replays.

Additionally, Microsoft released a new feature in Office called Outlook Interesting Calendars – a special calendar addition that help users track their favourite events including the Summer Games in Rio. Microsoft’s Bing is also making it easier for fans to keep up on the latest by offering predictions, athlete bios, event schedules and more.
