Mediapro revs up Formula One channel for growth across LATAM

For the second year in a row, Spain's Mediapro is deploying its Formula One network across LATAM, where, so far, it reaches seven million homes out of nearly 70 million pay-TV households.

Having acquired Formula One's broadcasting rights for Spanish-speaking Latin America through to 2019, Mediapro planned a pay-TV network with exclusive content to motor fans across the region. A year later and 13 operators have added the channel to their line-ups, including Televisa's SKY and Izzi.

For the upcoming Formula One 2016 season, Mediapro's Canal F1 Latin America will broadcast the whole championship in HD, with 11 Grand Prix being exclusive to the network, namely Bahrain, Russia, Spain, Canada, Azerbaijan, Austria, Hungary, Malaysia, Japan, the US and Abu Dhabi.

In addition, the channel will showcase the tests and qualifying rounds of each race, and the GP2, GP3 and Porsche Super Cup competitions, along with historical races. Every weekend, over 30 hours of live programming will be aired.

The channel will be also available for mobile and connected devices, offering six simultaneous feeds from which to chose during the race broadcasts.

The 24/7 line-up will be filled with content selected and produced by a Hispanic team, including Spaniards Liborio García (editor) and Nira Juanco, Colombian Diego Mejía, Argentina's González Rouco and Mexico's Giselle Zarur.
